2019 International Champions Cup Singapore launched

The 2019 International Champions Cup Singapore, presented by AIA, was launched on Tuesday with help from legends of the four competing teams.

Premier League giants Manchester United and reigning International Champions Cup champions Tottenham Hotspur will face Italian rivals Inter and Juventus in two matches over a single weekend in July.

Former United hero Dwight Yorke, ex-Tottenham marksman Teddy Sheringham, former Inter keeper Francesco Toldo and ex-Juventus striker Fabrizio Ravanelli helped launch the event, in collaboration with AIA, the International Champions Cup Singapore’s presenting partner

Charlie Stillitano, Executive Chairman of Relevent Sports Group, was excited at the prospect of seeing these four teams compete in Singapore.

“We are very pleased to bring the International Champions Cup to Singapore again," he said. "The event is the only platform for fans in the region to get up close to their favourite teams.”

It will be Tottenham’s first appearance in Singapore since 1995 while United last visited in 2001. Neither side has graced the new National Stadium pitch – unlike their opponents.

Serie A champions Juventus played the first soccer match in the stadium against a Singapore Select XI in 2014 while Inter were crowned champions of the 2017 International Champions Cup Singapore tournament.

Newly appointed Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær will face off against Inter on Saturday, July 20 with Juventus taking on Tottenham on Sunday 21.

“Each time I return to your beautiful country it seems to get better every time. I love the people, I love the food, the culture," said Yorke, who won six major honours with Manchester United between 1998 and 2002.

Toldo added: “Inter is a magnetic company. You should be well aware of this capacity we have. On this side of the world, the East side of the world, we have 130 million fans.”

After the launch event, Toldo and Ravanelli spent some time with the JSSL Youth Soccer Club clinic participants at The Arena football facility in Woodleigh Park.

They joined the participants in various drills, shared pointers, and took numerous photos with the JSSL representatives
